Simple Kids Crafts - Easy Wood Projects For Kids To Build

Some kids just love construction. While other children are busy painting things or sewing clothing, these kids just want to build things. This is an admirable trait because it is very useful to be able to build things. In order to encourage your child in their newfound interest, you should try to find ways of doing construction projects with them. This way, they will learn new techniques and they will also be able to tell if this is something they want to do for a living. Either way, they will surely have a lot of fun.

Another fun construction project to do is to make a spice rack. Not only will it be fun to make, but it will also be useful. Consider making this project in secret and then giving it to your child's other parent for their birthday or for mother's or father's day.

When you think of kids crafts what comes to mind? Many of us think paper, glue, scissors, and glitter. There is another form of crafting that children enjoy referred to as wood crafts. Although, it may seem complex there are plenty of rather simple wood projects you can start with your child. Introducing them to woodworking is a great method to use for confidence building.

A great construction project you can do as a team is to make a bird house. There are several different plans for a bird house not only on the internet, but in books as well. Once they are done making and painting the bird house, they will also be able to watch their creation at work. Every time they see a bird go there, they will be assured that their effort was good.

So where to start? Building a garden shed can seem like a real challenge, but with some thought and planning it can be easier than you think. To my point about, start by finding a good blueprint or set of plans. That's where you may want to spend a little money, unless you can find them online for free. Good plans with clear instructions will save you a lot of cash, not to mention time. You can also get a garden shed kit - depending upon your budget - and there are lots out there. Most come with some sort of guide or instructions, however you won't know how good they are until you open the box. Kits do save a lot of time as you don't have to shop for all the wood and parts, and can save cutting and sawing time with already cut pieces.

1. Build a catapult! Every child likes to throw things and building a catapult is an easy thing to do. You will need a block of wood, plastic spoon, a spring clothespin, and some very strong tape and/or glue. Start by taping or gluing the clothespin to the block of wood. Tape the plastic spoon onto the clothespin, so the round part of the spoon is facing up. When you press down on the base of the spoon and let go, you'll notice you've created your own catapult. Use marshmallows as "ammunition", and test how far a marshmallow will travel depending on how hard you push the catapult down before releasing it and sending the marshmallow across the room. This concept illustrates stored energy, gravity, and the transfer of energy.

Simple kids crafts made from wood products are extremely useful. A favorite among woodworkers is the key holder. Have you ever been running late and you can't find your keys. Many children can recall that type of situation. They will find great pride in creating a custom key holder for mom and dad. Birch shaker pegs or wood spindles can be used as an alternate key hook when making the design completely wood.

Another great wood project idea is building a letter holder. You can teach your child about postage stamps during the process. It's a quick and easy project to do. If you want to customize the letter holder let your child select their own choice of paint to add color to the piece. A fun and easy outdoor wood project is building a butterfly house. If you have a decent size backyard creating a structure that will attract beautiful monarch butterflies will amaze your child.

If you make several projects some can be sold on eBay or Etsy for extra income. Many children would be thrilled to see people actually wanting to purchase their creation. It's a great method to introduce your child into business and money. Showing them an example of how through learning something you can generate profit.

Depending on your child's age, the projects should be relatively simple and easy. You should leave the wood cutting up to you, since that is a very dangerous aspect of construction. Otherwise, you can trust your child to be able to do nearly every other step.
